When roofers repair or replace a roof, using a temporary ceiling with a “smart seam” is crucial for protection against dust and debris.

SmartSeam® Suspended Cover provides an innovative "smart seam" that captures dust and debris during construction. It includes a heat-reactive thread, allowing the ceiling panels to detach in the event of a fire. The opening ensures that fire sprinklers can function effectively.

Safety During Construction


Safety is a concern for roofers. Dust in the workplace can be a fire hazard or even cause explosions in some cases. Certain types of dust—like paint particles, iron, and epoxy—are considered combustible dust. Traditional temporary ceilings are a continuous sheet of plastic. It is installed over fire sprinklers and other critical components such as trusses, conduits, and pipes. However, this method often compromises the ceiling’s ability to seal properly, risking contamination and compromising safety.

SmartSeam complies with the International Building Code (IBC) and FM Approvals, allowing installation for up to six months. It maintains a continuous installation of film that captures debris while allowing the panels to open during a fire. It can be placed beneath sprinklers, lights, and other elements located beneath the roof deck.

Installation can be completed in just a few days during off-hours, providing roofers the flexibility to work efficiently. SmartSeam reduces project timelines, enabling safer operations without restricting hours.
